But I digress.
Goldie Blocks is an intelligent attempt to combat gender stereotypes in a world that still by and large falls victim to them. One only need look at the abuse meted out to 20-30 something men by the media when it came out they were all “Bronies” to see this sort of problem in action.
In essence, Goldie Blocks are Tinkertoys directly marketed to ladies. As a long time engineer of Tinkertoy madness their value as educational tools seems obvious to me. They are highly creativity driven and encourage children to build machines and abstract sculptures…or sometimes both at the same time. As a previously above stated androgynous child, I didn’t get the idea that Tinkertoys were ‘toys for boys.’ Frankly, in my household they were such prized possessions that my parents ended up having to buy a separate set for each of us to stop fighting and allow us the creativity to build even bigger examples of engineering mayhem.
But as I stated earlier, the rest of the world did not seem to adhere to the same gender neutral standards as my household. This is why I am glad that Goldie Blocks are around. Goldie Blocks are basically Tinkertoys but with the goal of shoving gender stereotypes into the mud and making them eat dirt. Maybe I wish we didn’t have to go to such lengths to change society, but the fact that people actually want to makes me feel all tickled pink inside (collective groan at bad jokes here). I for one am pleased to support products that encourage parents to look beyond gender stereotypes when interacting with their children.
