I treated myself to a little early Black Friday sale present and finally caved and picked up a nicer mic to use . (AKA I finally decided using a Rock Band mic was probably lame).
In order to test it out I set out to record a series of cover songs, partially for fun and partially as thank you gifts to my various friends and family. I had originally planned to upload my covers up on Soundcloud but decided I better not in case it caused any copyright issues. The only one I ended up keeping up was SnakeEater because frankly there were so many covers of it on youtube already that I figured I would be able to sneak that one by, especially since I'm doing this all for educational purposes, not for profit. I really just wanted to play around with mixing vocals and instrumentals.
But it took a lot of courage anyway. I have plenty of experience as a cellist preforming live for people, but especially it seems since the advent of vocal reality T.V. everyone has copious amounts of criticism for live vocal performance. My first few forays into vocal performance did not go very well either. So it was quite a big deal for me to even think about putting them up online. I have been more than a little surprised at how positive the reception for Snake Eater has been.
Hopefully over the winter I will be able to put a few more pieces together. I have some ideas for things that I would like to do now that I have some more live capabilities. Hopefully they will be up and available for listening soon!
